Film, TV, Videogame Writers Honored At Writers Guild Awards


Los Angeles, CA — Writers, producers, directors, actors, and actresses from all aspects of media gathered around to celebrate an evening of outstanding achievement during the 2019 Writers Guild Awards on Sunday.


Held at the fancy Beverly Hilton Hotel, the 71st annual ceremony welcomed guests and celebrities onto the famous red carpet before the show began. Stars like comedian Sarah Silverman, actress Jane Lynch, actor Ed Helms, director/producer Ron Howard, journalist and host Chris Hayes were amongst those lined up for the occasion.


Nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay for “Black Panther” director Ryan Coogler and producer Joe Robert Cole both appeared on the carpet looking spiffy in their black tuxes. Writer Mike Flanagan, producer Trevor Macy and actress Kate Siegel showed out for their nomination of “The Haunting of Hill House” in Best New Series.


Also in attendance were nominees Will Fetters (A Star is Born), Ryan Murphy and Our Lady J (Pose), Liz Flahive and Tara Hermann (Glow), Dorothy Fortenberry and Bruce Miller (The Handmaid’s Tale) and many more.


Award categories included Best in Original Screenplay, Adapted Screenplay, and Documentary Screenplay. Television, New Media, and News Nominees included Best in a Drama Series, Comedy Series, New Series, Original Long Form, Adapted Long Form, Animation and more.


In addition, Radio/Audio, as well as Promotional Writing and Video game also had their own nominated categories like, Best in Radio/Audio Documentary, On-Air Promotion, and Game Writing.


A total of 29 winners were crowned during the 2019 Writer’s Guild Awards. Among the winners were “Eighth Grade” for Original Screenplay, “The Americans” for Drama Series, “Barry for New Series," "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” for Comedy/Variety Talk Series, “A Tribute to Star Trek” for the 2018 Creative Arts Emmy’s for On-Air Promotion, and “God of War” for Video game Writing.
